Polyamorous/ENM Relationship Therapy

Polyamorous relationship therapy

Stepping off of the “relationship escalator” can present a lot of challenges for previously monogamous couples to navigate. I offer support for newly ethically nonmonogamous (ENM) and polyamorous partners in setting up their relationship agreements and establishing their boundaries, as well as working with jealousy and increasing compersion. I also work with folks in established nonmonogamous relationships who have hit bumps in the road or are just looking to deepen their connection with their partners. Common concerns nonmonogamous partners bring to therapy include:

  • disagreement about preferred relationship structure

  • disagreement about relationship agreements/boundaries

  • difficulty integrating multiple partners

  • challenges with parenting while poly/ENM

  • jealousy and envy

  • infidelity/affairs

  • and more

As with monogamous couples, I integrate Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) in my work with partners in polyamorous/ENM relationships. EFCT is deeply informed by attachment theory. Using EFCT, I help those in poly/ENM relationships improve their emotional connection by understanding and transforming communication negative patterns. We will work together to identify the negative cycle (your “dance”) you may be having with one or more partners and the underlying unmet needs that are driving it. We will restructure your cycle so that you can communicate more effectively and reconnect.
